Nokia 8110 4G ‘Banana’ phone may not launch at HMD’s April 4 India event

MD Global, the Finnish tech firm made a splash in the smartphone market with as many as five handsets at MWC 2018. While four of the smartphones got their share of limelight at the conference, what stood out was the ‘banana’ phone or the reimagined Nokia 8110 4G feature phone. The device that came as a rebirth of the classic Nokia 8110 generated a lot of hype but unfortunately it may not hit one of the biggest smartphones and feature phone markets in the world – India, learns Gadgets Now.

For the uninitiated, HMD recently sent out a media invitation for an event on April 4 in New Delhi, India. The company is expected to launch the aforementioned new handsets at the event, only that the Nokia 8110 4G may not be one of them.

This leaves us with four smartphones – Nokia 1, the new Nokia 6, Nokia 7 Plus and the Nokia 8 Sirocco. Among these, Nokia 1 was launched in India earlier this week at Rs 5,499. The Android Oreo (Go Edition) smartphone will start shipping by April.
So in all probability, HMD could launch the new Nokia 6, Nokia 7 Plus and the Nokia 8 Sirocco. It may have Nokia 8110 4G only for the show and may launch it in India in future.

There is no word on the prices of the three smartphones. For what’s worth, the Nokia 8 Sirocco, Nokia 7 Plus and new Nokia 6 were launched in the European market at EUR 749 (roughly Rs 60,000), EUR 399 (roughly Rs 32,000) and EUR 279 (roughly Rs 22,000) respectively.

At the April 4 event, all eyes are likely to be on Nokia 8 Sirocco as it is the most powerful smartphone HMD has launched this year until now. Some of the specifications include curved edge-to-edge 5.5-inch pOLED 2K display, dual rear cameras (12MP+13MP) with ZEISS optics, Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, 6GB RAM, 5MP front camera, 128GB inbuilt storage and 3,260mAh battery.
